Annual Field Trip 2023 – Melbourne, Australia
IFBR arranged the traditional bird walk the day after the Rotary International Convention in Melbourne. This time the walk was at Jells Park, just outside Melbourne, easily accessible by train, bus or car. Around 20 participants, IFBR members with friends, came together. We were guided by the President of Birdlife Melbourne, Mr Alan Crawford. Starting from Madeline’s Restaurant in Jells Park, we strolled around in the park (about 6 km) passed a small lake, enjoyed the landscape, and observed 43 species of birds. Among them were Australian Ibis, Black Swan, Hoary-headed Grebe, Masked lapwing, Magpie lark, Australian magpie, Chestnut Teal, Blue Billed Duck. We saw plenty of bush birds and parrots also calling the park their home. The weather was just perfect, and we ended up with a joint lunch before we said good-bye to each other and Jells Park. The birds observed were later presented at IFBR Bird Talk on February 17 th , 2024.
